Proverbs 20:4

“The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭20:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There will ALWAYS be an excuse…

Proverbs 11:14

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭11:14‬ ‭‬‬
Your SUCCESS or FAILURE in life may end up depending on ONE thing…GODLY COUNSEL.
How many decisions will you make without seeking Godly advice and counsel?

Proverbs 10:4

“He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.” Proverbs 10:4 KJV
Carelessness will cost you.
Be diligent, be frugal, and be wise!

He Calms Storms Too

Mark 4:38

“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?”

Jesus Christ is THE most influential and powerful Person of ALL TIME

The disciples of Jesus were often being taught important lessons that we can still relate to in our own lives today. Once, on the Sea of Galilee, a terrible storm arose and the disciples were terrified! Although there were at least  four of them who were professional fisherman, and at home on the sea, they all were convinced they were about to die. What seemed to make matters worse was the fact that their Master, Jesus, Whom they trusted with their lives, was asleep!

These men had watched Him do the miraculous on more than one occasion, and they had each pledged their lives to follow Him, by faith. This night, and this storm seemed to be the end of the journey for them all… including their weary Leader.

Jesus was asleep. By all appearances it would seem that He was oblivious to the situation and their dire need. Jesus was asleep. If He was God and had all knowledge and power, couldn’t He have done something to prevent this storm? Or was His sleeping through this torrent the convincing proof of His inability to be in full control at all times?

Thankfully, we know the answer. The Bible tells us that the disciples hastened to their sleeping Lord and cried out in fear, “Carest thou not that we perish?” How could He care for us while peacefully sleeping? But He DID care and He STILL cares today. Your “storm” of life has not taken Jesus by surprise. The winds of adversity and wave after wave of overwhelming troubles are no match for the Master and Creator God, our Lord Jesus Christ!

For that small band of frightened men, the next few moments would burn in their memories for the rest of their lives. Jesus, the Son of God, arise from His place of peaceful sleep, and they heard the clear voice of the One Who created the seas as He  spoke these words…”Peace, be still.” What a calm! What a peaceful quiet that everyone of them saw and felt as well! (The sea was quieted too)

Jesus STILL speaks “peace” to your raging and storm tossed heart. Jesus hears your heart’s cry and He is touched by the fear you feel each day. Jesus can save you and deliver you from EVERY sin or storm you may be facing. He still says, “ Peace, be still!” … and He can do so in your life as well!  (By the way, He calms storms too)

Proverbs 14:34

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

This week “We the people” had an incredible opportunity to exercise one of our most fundamental rights as Americans. We had the opportunity to vote.

In this country, those in positions of leadership are selected and elected by the people. From the office of the  President, all the way down to local elected officials, we enjoy the privilege and right to vote and elect our own leaders.

When it is all said and done, the winner wins and those who didn’t win…don’t really  lose either! This is because we live in a free society where we are ruled by a Constitution and laws. They are free to regroup and try again next time!

The people we elect ought to reflect the values we hold dear. We trust them to protect and promote those values by the way they develop legislation, policies, and their personal practices.  It can be easy for all that power to go to their head and change them from the inside out. I have seen this happen before, and we do not want to see it happen again.

As in every election there are disappointments and there are victories. What we must not do is allow our disappointments to keep us from supporting and praying for those who have been duly elected. Prayer will keep our elected officials strong, and you and I must keep them accountable. Don’t just let the election cycle be the only time you get involved in the process. Contact them, pray for them, and do what you can to make sure they know you care about this community.

For those who didn’t see “your” candidate elected, remember, this is a free country and you can try again. Build support now for those you hope to elect next time, while doing all you can to make this term the best it can be for us all.

This chapter of our political experience has changed and will continue to change up until and after the General Election in November. It’s ok, and it’s going to be ok. You and I have to be the ones who will set the example and come together as a community for the good of the community and face our challenges and changes together!

Whoever is in office will make a difference, but if we the people are united and supportive, then we can hold them accountable and make a lot of progress on the issues that matter the most! I am praying for those who will be facing off in November. God knows that we need integrity and honesty to be reignited in our elected positions. We need men and women of courage, who will face the challenges of their position and honor the Lord Jesus as they serve the people of this great county.

It is important that elected officials do not misuse or abuse our trust. They must remember, they represent and work for us!

Let us continue to pray and vote that the values which made our country great will make our county great and move us forward for the Glory of God!

God Bless!

John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
It is the seemingly elusive query of every generation. People want to know the truth of the universe, truth about history, truth about science, and the truth about themselves. We are often stumped and find the truth elusive when it comes to people and our often complicated relationships. We expect the truth from leaders and those in a position to be an example. We are offended when we are misguided and find out the hard and painful way that we have NOT been given the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the TRUTH!
The Bible speaks much about the subject of the TRUTH. It has been the topic of discussion and the point of man’s internal thirst for centuries. Pilate (the Governor who tried Jesus and had him crucified) asked, “What is truth?” Many of you are asking the same question. Especially as you look around at our world’s condition and see all the people pointing at their ideas and their solutions and calling the various (and often contradictory concepts) TRUTH. Churches claim to have the truth, yet so many of them disagree in a lot of ways. Leaders claim to possess and offer the TRUTH, yet too often we find ourselves wondering how they ever got into a place of prominent leadership in the first place! WHO can you trust to tell the TRUTH?! Where can you go to find the TRUTH?! Governor Pilate said it right, “What is truth?”
The answer to this as well as any other question of eternal value is found in the Bible, God’s Holy Word. Jesus said in a prayer to His Father,
“Sanctify them through thy truth, THY WORD IS TRUTH.” – John 17:17
According to Jesus Christ, the Word of God is TRUTH. In it alone we can find what God says about ourselves, our relationships, our conduct, and our character. We can see what God calls evil and what God calls good. He ALONE defines these things because His Word ALONE is TRUTH. We can argue and debate our opinions and at the end of the day go our ways still convinced of our accepted theories and positions on any subject we have debated. When all along, God has the TRUTH provided for us to read, to hear preached, and to humbly accept as it is in fact…the TRUTH!
The TRUTH about church. Church itself is NOT the TRUTH, but is the “pillar and ground” of TRUTH (1 Timothy 3:15). Just because a church believes or practices a certain creed or religious formality, doesn’t make it right. ONLY what God’s Word declares is TRUTH. God expects for us to “rightly divide” His Word that we will not come up with our own fabricated version of Christianity…which SO MANY have done already. Eternity is WAY TOO LONG for you to simply swallow everything handed down to you. You need to know the TRUTH and be set free! FREE from a life of Godlessness. FREE from a life of sin. FREE from a life of empty religion. FREE from formalities that are NOT presented in the Bible as a part of Christ’s doctrine.
Get a Bible. Read it, study it, and apply it to your life as you sit under Bible preaching. Let the Spirit of God work in your heart as you hear and know the TRUTH.
Just because you believe something or have practiced “this way” all your life, doesn’t make it true. Jesus said that MANY would stand before Him on the Day of Judgment and declare all they did for Him and in His Name, only to hear Him say, “Depart from me…I NEVER knew you.” How horrible it will be for so many people who today are going to “church”, participating in “religion” and yet Christ Himself does NOT know them! The only way a person could be in that condition is because they have been deceived into following a man-made system of religion. Many people are right now living what they call Christianity, but it has very little Biblical resemblances at all.
Life is too short, and Eternity is too long to just “do what you’ve always done” or expect that some religious tradition or creed will get you where the Bible says you should be at the end of your life here on Earth.
Jesus IS the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. He gave us His Holy Word, the Bible, and said it is the Powerful TRUTH of God Almighty that can change our lives for now and eternity. While many may still be asking the age-old question, “What is truth?” Jesus has already given us the Answer. TRUTH is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ alone as your personal Lord and Saviour.
1 John 5:12
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
You can be FREE today. Free from your sin, and the coming Judgment of God. You can be free from your past and the pain you have caused the heart of God. You can be free from a religious experience that has give you no lasting hope or fruit of righteousness. When you know the TRUTH, you can be set FREE!
Let me know if you have trusted Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour.

God Bless!

WANTED: Leaders

John 13:15 “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”
1Timothy 4:12 “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
As human beings, we thrive on examples and role models. You see them all around us, sports stars, music stars, movie stars, and many more!   We tend to promote those among us who are taking on the challenging roles in our community and highlight them as good examples as well. (After-school program workers, charity organizations, care-givers, etc.) When it comes to being a leader, God encourages us to consider the position carefully and respectfully.   He tells us to reach out, to give it our best effort, and to be an example.
We need REAL leaders in our homes, our churches, our schools, and in our community.
Our homes need leaders. Unfortunately, too many homes are not working like they were intended to work. We can point our finger and make excuses for why “my home” is broken beyond repair and why I should be excused from responsibility. The successful family can be linked to the fact they have latched on to the truth and their responsibility of leadership in the home. God designed the home to be led by men and women who understand their role and take their positions seriously. Whether as a husband and wife together, or as a single parent, the job is no less important nor is success any less possible. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” All it takes is for one person in the home to see the potential and the future of their family as important enough to stand up and begin to make the necessary changes that will transform YOUR family and home into that which can bring glory to God.
Our churches need leaders. We have many churches across our country. While it is somewhat comforting to see a building and a sign that advertises service times, how much more if those churches were led by sincere people who understand the church’s role in the community. The role of the church is to confront the evil of sin with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and furthermore, to help develop the lives and families who are being transformed by the Power of Jesus Christ.   The church has a responsibility to set the example for morality, justice, sobriety, and goodness. So, the church needs men and women among the congregation who are living examples of these standards in their daily life.   Too often, churches are filled with people interested in their spiritual life one day a week. It is the other six days that prove the power of what was preached on Sunday. How disappointing it is for the church to be a part of the problem and not contributing to the solution. We need leaders in the church!
Our schools need leaders. Leadership that extends beyond the school board and administrative offices, but also within the school itself. Students who are brave enough to see the value of a safe and thriving educational environment, who will stand up among their peers and provide a positive role model inside and outside of the classroom. Students who have a gift of leadership (you know who you are) ought to be visible and vocal in your schools and set the pace for the rest of the school to follow. You would be surprised at how many of your fellow students are longing and hoping for someone to rise among the ranks of their peers who will transform the spirit of our schools from places of tension and the influence of vice to environments of safety and conducive to the educational needs of everyone who attends.
Our community needs leaders. Not just elected officials interested in the power or income potential, but genuine leaders who will use their influence and position to impact and make a difference in the community they are called to serve. Whether they are a judge, administration official, law enforcement officer, or they fill any other number of community roles…we NEED you to lead by a godly example. Too many communities are hindered by elected officials who turn from their constituents and use their position of power to further their own profits. This is not leadership, this is taking advantage! The election season is upon us and I encourage those considering a run for office to understand the importance of the position and to commit yourself to the service of the Lord and then to this community and the people you will serve. I encourage those of us who will be affected by those elected, to make it our priority to hold them accountable by REGISTERING to vote, by VOTING, and by staying in communication with them while they are in office. Good leaders understand their need for accountability and welcome the opportunity to prove their integrity in the office.
Examples are so important, they set the standard. We need some good people who will consider the impact they could have in the lives of those around them and do just that…BE A LEADER! We need leaders in every area of life.
See you in church!

How do YOU Respond to Correction?

Proverbs 9:8-9
Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
Nobody “likes” to be corrected or rebuked. It’s human nature to think you are right, and then to feel somewhat offended when others correct you for the choices you have been making. However, THIS is how God has chosen to shape your life, so that you would not end up molded exclusively by your own opinions. You have people, good people, in your life who care enough for you to help keep you from this kind of self-absorption. When you fail or act in some way that is not acceptable, these good people are there to give you a measure of guidance and clearly identify the problem so you can correct it. Sadly, there are those who will not be corrected! They are their own “quality control” and they have concluded that everything with them is “A-O.K.”! The problem with this mentality is that EVERYONE else can see right through the façade and could quickly point out several things that need correcting (especially their pride). These are the people that Solomon was speaking about when he said “Rebuke not a scorner…” The scorner is not simply in error, he/she is in error and will not be corrected. (What a sad place to be in life) Having only their own thoughts and opinion to validate the rest of their attitudes and actions, these people have convinced themselves that they are right! The rest of us have a word for that, it’s called, “narcissism” – having excessive interest and admiration of yourself. God’s Word says that these people will not respond well to a rebuke or reproof. They will respond in hate instead of in humility. Does THIS sound like you? On the other hand, God said to instruct, rebuke, and teach a wise man and he will be wiser! Instead of hearing the correction with a rebellious and self-centered ear, listen with humility and understanding that God has put certain people in your life to help you and guide you to better decisions and better choices. Maybe it is a pastor, and parent, a teacher, or just a friend. Whomever it may be, LISTEN to them! LEARN from them! LOVE the person who cares enough about you to reach out to you and take a chance on making you mad in order to help you! LEARN to be a better person because of the caring correction given with the intention of helping and improving your life! How you REACT to rebuke or instruction tells more about your character than you may realize. God says that with this simple test, it will be revealed as to whether you are wise or foolish. BE WISE!

Is it IMPORTANT that I go to church?

Hebrews 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
While it is common, and in our Southern culture it is even somewhat popular to attend church periodically, is it really that important?  Some make it a weekly practice and have done so for many years!  A cursory glance in virtually any community of this county will prove that churches are esteemed as an important and even an integral part of the fiber and history of Colleton County.  So, with all these buildings and groups gathering on a regular basis, where does the individual fit in?  Is it important that you and your family make church a significant part of your life?  What does God, the Creator and Judge of every living thing have to say about whether or not you go to church? First of all, understand that Church was God’s idea. (Matthew 16:18 Jesus said, “…I will build my church…”)   The Bible clearly tells us that the Church began with Jesus Christ and it is His Own. In other words, nobody else owns or controls the Church!  The Church is and ought to be an independent entity, governed by the Bible and Jesus Christ, Himself.  Jesus Christ alone is the Head and Authority of His Church.  According to the Bible, Christ died for the church, and purchased the church with His Own Blood (Acts 20:28 “…the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”)  It was His desire to reconcile sinners to Himself and to provide the Way for man’s Salvation, so Jesus Christ gave Himself to be the Sacrifice for all our sins on the Cross of Calvary.  Through His Death, Burial, and Resurrection (the Gospel) EVERY sinner can be forgiven and saved by the Grace of God.  Salvation is the key to being made a part of the “family of God” and being a part of what God called the Church.  Through the New Testament, the Spirit of God instructs those who have truly been saved to be baptized, to grow in their faith and their walk/relationship with God through regular church attendance (Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”) and (Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”) Simply “going” to church is not in itself the answer though.  God has designed it so that His children would go to church, with the church, and be the church.  While that may sound redundant or confusing, let me explain.  The New Testament says that the Church is the House of God (1 Timothy 3:15  But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.).  The Bible says that the Church is the people of God who have been saved by the Grace of God (Acts 2:47  Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.).  This combination of obedient believers gathering at a specific place is important because we gather to hear the preaching and teaching of God’s Word, by God’s Man on a regular basis (1 Corinthians 1:18  For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.).  The Spirit of God has the liberty to take what is preached and to personally apply it to our everyday life.  Challenging us and changing us by the Power of the Truth, God’s Word! Next, realize that while oftentimes the church may be visualized as a building, church is a gathering!  The church, as the Scripture defines, is the gathering together of those who have been transformed by the Power of Jesus Christ, Who is risen from the dead.  These people who have put their faith in Jesus Christ, have been changed from the inside out and now, in obedience to the Bible, gather often for worship and fellowship as they continue to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ.  Because of this truth, it is vitally important that you attend church regularly and that you attend a church that is faithfully fulfilling its role as the “pillar and ground of truth” (1 Timothy 3:15).  In other words, church is NOT simply a place to enhance or elaborate political or cultural preferences, it is the place where the Eternal Truth of God’s Word is to be preached and taught without hesitation or reservation!  While politics, policies, and cultural issues WILL be addressed from a Biblical Worldview, the point of the gathering together of the family of God is to hear the preaching of the Word of God, and to go out as obedient doers of the Word and not hearers only.  God’s Word says for those who simply hear and do not apply the Truth of the Bible to their everyday life are only deceiving themselves.  They think that going inside a building called a church and hearing what is sung and said is enough to get them through the rest of the week…not true! God warns us against that kind of thinking.  He tells us that when you hear only and do not obey the Word of God, you are lying to yourself, and worse than that…you are believing your own lie (James 1:22  But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.). So, now that you know that church is important, and God wants you and your family to go to church, how do you know which one to go to?  History and heritage both have a strong drawing power to cause people to attend this church or that church, but soon they find, in many cases that they are attending a place without the preaching of the Word of God and without the Power of God.  This choice will be easily made and easily ended.  The Bible is the Source for all our answers in life, and this answer is no less obvious in the Word of God.  The Lord clearly instructs us to go to church, and then He defines what it means to be a genuine church.  It is the place where TRUTH, God’s TRUTH, is clearly and consistently preached and practiced.  The New Testament churches not only preached the Bible, but they lived the Bible with obvious power and holiness demonstrated in their daily lives.  Any church that will not preach the Word of God as it is written is not adhering to the basic function of a church and thus cannot be qualified as a church that you and your family should attend.  The church MUST be obeying the Word of God as well.  Why would I want to subject my precious family to a place and be influenced by people who were clearly living in open rebellion and disobedience to the Word of God?  We’ve all seen and known the hypocrites who live in sin all week and then sing in the choir or teach a class on Sunday.  This too must be disqualified as a place fit for my or any family to attend as “church”.  I need a place where the people fulfill the greatest commandments, Love God and Love People.  When they are doing this, there will be no shortage of clear Bible preaching, Christ honoring music and worship, as well as fellowship and discipleship to help me and my family to grow in the Truth of God’s Word.  While there may be plenty of buildings across the county calling themselves “church”, make sure to get your family in one that is Biblically defined and obedient to the Word of God! See you in church!
